Trethurgy · Cornwall · near the Eden Project

Woodland tent and hammock camping near the Eden Project.

Bring a small tent or hammock and stay among the trees beside the lake at Ennal’s Pool. The aim is simple: quiet, space, lakeside and woodland spots and the feeling of being properly away from everything.

This is deliberately low-key camping. There are no rows of marked pitches. Instead, you choose from small woodland and lakeside spots where the ground and vegetation allow, with plenty of good hammock locations. Numbers stay low so each booking can have a genuinely secluded feel rather than sharing a conventional campsite.

Woodland path and trees at Ennal’s Pool
Wild-feel camping in Cornwall

Find your own corner of the woods.

The woodland wraps around the lake and has a mixture of clearings, paths, banks and mature trees. Small tents can be tucked into suitable level pockets. Hammock campers have an even wider choice.

The aim is to keep numbers low and the experience quiet. It is much closer to nearly-wild camping than a conventional campsite.

Small tents

Best for compact tents that can fit between trees and cope with naturally uneven woodland ground.

Hammocks

The woodland offers many suitable pairs of trees, making hammock camping one of the simplest ways to stay here.

Lake and wildlife

The site centres on a 2.5-acre former china-clay lake with kingfishers, herons, dragonflies and woodland wildlife around the margins.

Free kayak use

Camping guests can use the Ennal’s Pool kayaks on the lake at no extra charge.

Wild camping first, simple facilities when you want them

The experience is built around peace, quiet and choosing your own corner of the site. As a fallback, camping guests also have access to a compost toilet, a shower and washing-up facilities. Basic cooking provision can be arranged for confirmed stays. The facilities are there when useful without turning the woodland into a conventional campsite.

Phone charging is available, with limited low-voltage power provision near the camping areas. Campers can also use direct 240V mains power at the main base when needed. This is not a conventional electric hook-up at each woodland pitch.

Kayaks are included too. Campers have the same free access to the site kayaks as guests in the yurt and Vintage Tent, so the lake can be part of the stay rather than just the view.

Who this suits

This is for campers who value privacy, wildlife and atmosphere over a perfectly level pitch. It should suit walkers, cyclists, hammock campers, families with compact tents and people looking for a more natural base near the Eden Project.

If your priority is a manicured grass pitch, electric hook-up beside the tent or a conventional shower block, there are better campsites nearby. If you would rather wake up among trees beside a deep Cornish lake, this may suit you very well.

Walking, cycling and the Clay Trails

The site is well placed for the Clay Trails and for exploring the wider landscape around Trethurgy, St Austell and Eden. That makes it useful for people travelling lightly on foot or by bike as well as visitors using Ennal’s Pool as a base for a few days.
